Do you build architectural homes?
Yes. Architectural construction is one of our key areas of expertise.
We work closely with homeowners, architects, designers and other consultants to turn detailed architectural plans into beautifully finished homes.
Architectural builds often involve complex construction methods, bespoke detailing and premium materials. Our experienced team understands the importance of precision and attention to detail throughout every stage of the project.
What makes an architectural build different from a standard home?
Architectural homes typically involve more complex detailing, higher-quality finishes and customised construction techniques.
These projects require close collaboration between the builder, architect and consultants to achieve the design intent while maintaining structural integrity and compliance.
Our experience with complex architectural construction means we’re comfortable delivering projects where precision and craftsmanship are essential.
Can you help if I don’t have plans or an architect yet?
Absolutely. You don’t need to have completed plans before contacting us.
If you’re at the beginning of your project, we can discuss your ideas, site, budget and overall requirements. We can also recommend experienced architects and other professionals we know and trust.
Getting a builder involved early can be valuable because it allows practical construction considerations and indicative costs to be considered during the design process.
Can you work with my existing architect?
Yes.
If you already have an architect or designer, we’re happy to work alongside them.
We regularly collaborate with architects, engineers, designers and other consultants to ensure the design can be successfully translated from plans into construction.
Good communication between the homeowner, architect and builder is particularly important on complex architectural projects.
I already have building consent. Can you take over from there?
Yes. If your plans have already been completed and building consent has been issued, we can review your documentation and discuss the next steps towards construction.
You don’t need to start the entire design and build process with us. We can become involved at different stages depending on where your project is currently at.
Do you handle building consent and council requirements?
We can assist with managing the building consent process and coordinating the documentation required for construction.
Depending on the project, this may involve working with architects, engineers and other specialists to ensure the necessary documentation is prepared and submitted.
Council requirements vary depending on the type and complexity of the project, so we’ll discuss what is required during the planning stages.
What is your building process?
Every project is different, but our typical process includes:
- Initial consultation and discussion about your project
- Concept design and collaboration with your architect
- Establishing build costs and budget
- Contracts and council documentation
- Construction and project management
- Quality assurance and inspections
- Final sign-off and handover
Throughout the project, we maintain regular communication so you understand how the build is progressing and what is happening next.
How much does it cost to build a house in Auckland?
The cost of building a home in Auckland varies considerably depending on the size of the property, architectural complexity, site conditions, materials, finishes and level of specification.
A custom architectural home will generally have very different construction costs from a straightforward standard build.
Rather than relying solely on a generic square-metre rate, we recommend discussing your plans and requirements with us so we can provide guidance based on the actual project.
How do you keep renovation costs under control?
Budget management starts long before construction begins.
We carefully review plans, identify potential cost risks, and discuss alternative construction methods where appropriate. Throughout the project we keep clients informed of progress and any variations before work is undertaken.
Clear communication and proactive planning help prevent unexpected costs becoming major surprises.
How long does it take to build a new home?
There is no single timeframe that applies to every new build.
The construction period depends on factors such as the size and complexity of the home, site access, architectural detailing, material availability and the scope of work.
Before construction begins, we’ll discuss the expected programme with you and keep you informed about progress throughout the build.
What happens if I decide to change something during the build?
Changes are common during construction.
If you decide to alter finishes, layouts, fixtures or structural elements, we’ll explain how the change affects pricing, materials and the project timeline before proceeding.
Our goal is to give you all the information you need to make informed decisions without unexpected costs later.
Can you renovate while we are still living in the house?
In some cases, yes.
Whether you can remain in your home during a renovation depends on the extent of the work and which areas of the property are affected.
For smaller or staged renovations, it may be practical to remain in the house. For major renovations involving extensive structural work, kitchens, bathrooms or essential services, temporarily moving out may be safer and more practical.
We can discuss this with you before construction begins.
Do you undertake major home renovations?
Yes. We specialise in substantial renovations and alterations throughout Auckland.
This can include transforming older homes, changing layouts, adding extensions, upgrading kitchens and bathrooms, improving indoor-outdoor flow and undertaking extensive architectural renovations.
We approach renovations carefully because working with an existing building can uncover challenges that aren’t always visible during the initial planning stages.
Can you extend an existing home?
Yes. Home extensions are a significant part of our renovation work.
An extension can create additional bedrooms, larger living areas, a new kitchen, improved indoor-outdoor flow or additional storeys.
We’ll work with your architect or designer to ensure the new addition integrates effectively with the existing home.
Do you undertake recladding projects?
Yes. Master Craft Construction undertakes recladding and exterior renovation projects throughout Auckland.
A reclad may be considered when existing cladding has deteriorated, there are weather-tightness concerns, or you simply want to modernise and improve your home’s exterior.
Because every property is different, we recommend having the building properly assessed before determining the appropriate solution.
Can you build decks and outdoor living areas?
Yes. We design and build outdoor areas that complement both your home and the way you use your property.
Projects can include decks, pergolas, covered entertaining areas, retaining walls, outdoor stairs, patios, fencing and balustrades.
Outdoor construction in Auckland needs to consider weather exposure, drainage, durability and appropriate materials, as well as the overall appearance of the finished space.
Do you build minor dwellings or granny flats?
Yes. We can construct minor dwellings, granny flats and other self-contained spaces.
These can be used for extended family, guests, rental accommodation, a home office or additional flexible living space.
The requirements will depend on your property, the proposed building and applicable planning and building rules. We can help you understand the construction process and coordinate with the appropriate design professionals.
Do you undertake commercial construction?
Yes. In addition to residential building, we undertake commercial construction projects throughout Auckland.
Our commercial services include new commercial buildings, renovations, extensions, alterations, office and retail fit-outs, structural repairs and remediation.
We work closely with business owners, developers, architects and consultants to deliver functional, durable and high-quality commercial spaces.
Who manages my project during construction?
Your project is managed by our experienced team from the start of construction through to completion.
We coordinate the construction programme, subcontractors, materials, inspections and day-to-day requirements of the build.
We also maintain regular communication with you so you know how your project is progressing.
Do you use your own subcontractors?
We work with a trusted network of subcontractors and tradespeople who we know and rely on.
Maintaining strong relationships with experienced trades allows us to maintain consistency in workmanship, communication and scheduling across our projects.
Are you Registered Master Builders?
Yes. Master Craft Construction is a member of the Registered Master Builders Association.
Eligible residential projects can be covered by the Master Build 10-Year Guarantee, providing additional protection and peace of mind for homeowners.
Have you won any building awards?
Yes. Master Craft Construction has received multiple Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards.
Our achievements include Gold Awards, Regional Category Winner awards and Top 100 recognition for architectural new builds and renovations.
These awards reflect the high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail we aim to deliver across every project.
What makes Master Craft Construction different?
We’re an owner-operated Auckland construction company with a strong focus on craftsmanship, communication and attention to detail.
Our team has extensive experience across architectural homes, renovations and complex construction projects. We enjoy challenging builds where careful planning and skilled workmanship make a real difference to the finished result.
Most importantly, we work collaboratively with our clients, architects, designers and trades to deliver a result everyone involved can be proud of.
How early should I involve a builder in my project?
Many people wait until they have completed architectural plans before contacting a builder, but involving us earlier can save both time and money.
We regularly work with homeowners during the concept stage, providing practical construction advice that helps identify potential issues before they become expensive design changes. We can also recommend cost-effective building methods, suggest alternative materials, and provide realistic budget expectations before plans are finalised.
Early collaboration between the homeowner, architect, designer and builder often results in a smoother project with fewer surprises during construction.
What’s the biggest mistake homeowners make before renovating?
The biggest mistake is underestimating what’s hidden behind the walls.
Many older Auckland homes can contain outdated plumbing, electrical wiring, structural issues or weather-tightness problems that aren’t visible until demolition begins.
This is why we recommend allowing a contingency within your budget. We communicate openly throughout the project and discuss any unexpected discoveries before additional work proceeds.
How do I get started?
The first step is simply to get in touch.
Tell us about your property, what you’re considering building or renovating, and where you are in the planning process.
Whether you have completed architectural drawings, an initial concept or simply an idea, we’re happy to discuss your project and help you understand the next steps.
